Career Beginnings
Andrew Osei-Karmen is a distinguished professional with a robust background in business economics, healthcare, and compliance. He holds a degree in Business Economics from Reading University, where he laid the foundation for his multifaceted career.
Karmen’s professional journey began in the energy sector with E.ON Energy Germany in 2008, where he worked with global government carbon emissions programs and microgeneration initiatives. Over his eight-year tenure with the company, he also made his mark in the media industry, appearing on various television platforms including BBC and ITV. His roles in front of the camera allowed him to develop strong connections with leadership and production management teams across the UK, Europe, and the United States.
Driven by a passion for healthcare and compliance, Karmen transitioned to the NHS, serving as the National Quality Manager for Mediscan Diagnostic Services. In this capacity, he managed 420 NHS surgeries across the UK, overseeing ultrasound, MSK physiotherapy, and audiology framework programs. His responsibilities included auditing processes to ensure compliance with CQC standards, presenting at medical conferences, and discussing audit and compliance management elements aligned with ISO 13485, AND ISO 27001
Karmen then moved into the private healthcare sector, working closely with law firms in the UK and the United States on high-profile clinical negligence cases. He specialized in consulting and coaching expert witnesses, helping them develop their profiles and expand their practices. Andrew excelled in building and managing relationships with solicitors and lawyers, connecting experts with key contacts and instructing parties. His active participation in networking events and conferences, such as Bond Solon and the National Expert Witness Conference at Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London, further solidified his reputation.
Global Certification
Expanding his expertise, Karmen joined the global panel of experts at Guidepoint Global as a healthcare consultant to medical practices worldwide. He subsequently joined Global Certification Body Lloyd’s Register as a Global Assurance Strategic Account Manager, focusing on ESG, carbon emissions targeting, medical device certification, and verification for organizations striving to comply with regional and global governance policies.
In 2023, Andrew’s expertise and leadership qualities were recognized at the Economic House of Commons event, where he met Darren Meek and Paul Edwards. Their shared vision for improving medico-legal and forensic expert witness processes led to the founding of the Expert Witness Society, with Andrew playing a pivotal role in the leadership team.
Beyond his extensive experience in global compliance and medical law, Karmen has built a significant public profile through collaborations with leading news and media organizations. Leveraging his strong network of contacts, he now assists experts in enhancing their visibility, helping them stand out in a competitive expert witness industry.
